breno quinderé
Breno Quinderé was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he began his musical education on the piano at the age of seven. In his youth, he also came in contact with early music in his school choir, the “Coral do Centro Educacional de Niterói”, under the guidance of his first music mentor, the pianist and musical educator Ermano Soares de Sá (1932-2019). There, he discovered his passion for early repertoires.
Based in Basel, Switzerland, Breno performs today a wide range of repertoire, from Late-Medieval to the Romantic, both as soloist and ensemble singer. He is fortunate to collaborate with a number of incredibly creative ensembles and artists, such as La Cetra Basel (Andrea Marcon), da tempera velha, Domus Artis, Collegium Vocale Gent (Philippe Herreweghe), Ensemble Los Elementos (Alberto Miguélez Rouco), Il Pettirosso (Alberto Gaspardo), among others. He has sung in festivals such as the Bachfest Leipzig, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Festival d’Ambronay, Forum Alte Musik Zürich, Festtage für Alte Musik Basel, FIAS Madrid, Musica Divina Krakow and Freunde Alter Musik Basel.
On stage, Breno has been seen in the role of Orfeo (“L’Orfeo”, Monteverdi), Endimione (“Orfeo”, L. Rossi) and Don Giovanni (“Don Giovanni”, Mozart),. He has performed as soloist in various oratorios including Monteverdi’s “Vespro della Beata Vergine”, J. S. Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio”, “John Passion” as well as several of his church cantatas, Haydn’s “Die Schöpfung” and several masses by composers such as Mozart and Schubert.
Breno was also cast in the first master-class of the ensemble Les Arts Florissants, with William Christie held in 2021 and dedicated to the interpretation of late 17th and early 18th century French music. In 2020, he also won an international scholarship from the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice) to participate in the Morte a Venezia seminar under the direction of Vivica Genaux and Pedro Memelsdorff, where he studied the solo repertoire of J.A. Hasse.
He completed degrees in singing and music pedagogy at universities in Rio de Janeiro. Later in Switzerland, he graduated in Bachelor and Master in singing with specialization in Early Music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, in addition to two years of postgraduate studies in voice in the class of Prof. Rosa Domínguez as well as in Renaissance performance practice with the musicologist Anne Smith at the School of Excellence of the Musik-Akademie Basel.
