breno quinderé
Brazilian baritone Breno Quinderé began his musical training at the age of seven on the piano in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro. The son of physiotherapists and physical education teachers, he was the first in his family to pursue a career in music. This was mainly due to the remarkable musical experience he had in his school choir "Coral do Centro Educacional de Niterói" under the direction of music teacher Ermano Soares de Sá (1932-2019). It was there that he discovered his passion for early repertoires.
Based in Basel, Breno now performs a wide repertoire from the late Middle Ages to the Romantic period, both as a soloist and in ensembles. He has been fortunate to work with a number of incredibly creative ensembles and artists such as La Cetra Basel (Andrea Marcon), Ensemble Tsurà (Amir Tiroshi), Ensemble Los Elementos (Alberto Miguélez Rouco), BernVocal (Fritz Kraemer), Innsbrucker Hofmusik (Marian Polin), da tempera velha, Domus Artis, Cardinal Complex and others. He has sung at festivals such as Bachfest Leipzig, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Festival d'Ambronay, Forum Alte Musik Zurich, Festtage für Alte Musik Basel, FIAS Madrid, Musica Divina Krakow and Freunde Alter Musik Basel.
As a soloist he has performed in various oratorios, including Monteverdi's "Vespro della Beata Vergine", J. S. Bach's "Christmas Oratorio", "St. John Passion" and several of his church cantatas, as well as various masses and oratorios by composers such as Mozart and Schubert. Breno has appeared on stage as Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni, Mozart) and in concert programmes as Orfeo (L'Orfeo, Monteverdi), Endimione (Orfeo, L. Rossi), Count D'Almaviva and Don Alfonso (Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart).
Furthermore, he was accepted into the first master class of the ensemble Les Arts Florissants (2021) with William Christie and dedicated to the interpretation of French music of the late 17th and early 18th century. In 2020, he received an international scholarship from the Fondazione Giorgio Cini (Venice) for the seminar “Morte a Venezia” under the direction of Vivica Genaux and Pedro Memelsdorff, where he explored the solo repertoire of J. A. Hasse.
After completing degrees in singing and music education at universities in Rio de Janeiro, Breno moved to Switzerland, where he completed a bachelor's and master's degree in singing, specialising in early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. He also completed post-graduate studies with vocal professor Rosa Domínguez and in Renaissance performance practice with musicologist Anne Smith at the School of Excellence of the Basel Music Academy.
